How to Survive Halloween with Braces

Halloween is a time to have fun and eat some sweet treats. However, if you have braces, your Halloween might get slightly difficult. Since braces can make it difficult to eat certain foods, your Halloween might become a little bit challenging. But don't worry; Halloween can still be fun even when you have braces!

Brace-friendly Candy

Halloween doesn't have to be a bust if you're wearing braces. In fact, it's a fun way to live out your sweet tooth for one day a year. Just make sure that you choose healthy options that won't have a negative impact on your treatment. Here are some of our favorites.

Taffy

Sugar-free hard candies like lollipops and Jolly Ranchers are some of your best options because they can be chewed easily and won't stick to your teeth or braces. Just be sure you don't get carried away and eat too many!

Chocolate

Dark chocolate can actually be good for your smile because it's high in calcium and phosphorus, two minerals that strengthen your teeth and bones. But don't go overboard – eating too much chocolate can result in cavities and cause problems with your gums.

Gummy Candies

These aren't as sticky as regular chewable candies and won't cause as much damage to your teeth or your braces. Plus, they're soft, which means that they aren't likely to damage your brackets or wires. Keep in mind that gummy bears and other sticky candies are off-limits because of their high levels of sugar.

Nuts

Healthy nuts won't stick to your mouth or teeth or cause tooth decay, making them a great option for people with braces. Just avoid those that are covered in sugary syrups or honey.

Yogurt

Dairy products like yogurt are good for your teeth because they're low in sugar and contain lots of beneficial vitamins that can help strengthen and protect your teeth. Try to find low-fat varieties to avoid excess calories and sugar.

Carrots and Other Vegetables

Crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery make great snack options for after you eat all the candy you want on Halloween night. They provide a healthy way to satisfy your hunger without causing damage to your teeth and braces. Some even provide vitamin C to strengthen your tooth

Avoid Hard, Sticky Candies

At your Halloween party, be sure to avoid hard candies and sticky treats like caramel apples or taffy. They can get lodged in your braces and cause a lot of damage. Sugary candy can cause tooth decay and cavities regardless of whether or not you have braces, so be sure to brush and floss after eating sweets. Hard candies can also cause damage to your braces by breaking brackets and causing wires to poke out. These types of accidents are extremely common during Halloween parties, so be careful when eating any type of food!

Stay Hydrated

Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the night with water, so you don't become dehydrated throughout the night. Water will also help cleanse your teeth of any sugars and acids that may have built up while eating sugary foods. Drinking water will also keep you feeling full throughout the night and help you to avoid consuming too many sugary foods and drinks that can damage your teeth and braces.
